In many occasions, when I’m somewhere walking around looking for a photo I think that there is always one, close to me, waiting for me to discover it. This sensation becomes much more powerful when you travel to Vietnam.
I like people. But rather than steal an image from them I like to use photography to get in touch with them and this is especially easy there. It doesn’t exist much this sense of privacy that shapes our western style of living.
People live in constant relationship with other people in a way that in many cases the private areas of their own homes and the streets becomes a continuous space. Once you get in touch with someone you are in, where you can find the most intimate and worm images.
Before this workshop I used to carry my camera with me to many different places and trips. I sometimes wake-up early in the morning to get a nice light in a place that I’ve already seen and liked before, but I’ve never stay 10 days, almost 24 hours a day with other people just thinking, feeling and trying to learn to see through the camera.
After those days I can surely say that not only my photos look different but – and what it’s more important – I have now a completely different way of looking to photography and in addition to the world around me. And I hope to learn much more. |
