We participated (my wife and I) to Nicolas's workshop: 10 days in Thailand.
I searched in vain for some feedback on workshops photo with FotoAsia!
So now having had the experience I think a short feedback will inform potential future interest.
This workshop is really photo reportage oriented with a certain esthetic, it is not tourism or the "souvenir photo". Although there is no required level, I think it is good to have a basic knowledge of his camera. This is to go further and make better use of advice and feedback from Nicolas.
The rythme of the workshop is based on a photo session in the morning, a little break after lunch (just enough time to see and filter your pics!). Another shooting in the afternoon and late afternoon: the red line, each evening same time, same place, meeting people and life! (In our case, SIAM Square was "our reportage"!).
The sites are chosen for their originality and their photographic potential. Nicolas knows well the locations and time of day you get the best lightning. He gives some guidelines and directions of work according to people and sites visited. Then have all your time to express yourself by images. Nicolas keeps an eye on you, your attitude and your approach to the subject, it is of course also available for all questions.
We were also supported all times by a local assistant (also photographer), this makes things smooth and opens many doors. People meetings were really direct and qualitative!
One day on two a short slide show is organized, you have to present about twenty photos (your very best-of!). The moment is a bit solemn, critics are simple and constructive, Nicolas always try to improve your "photographic eye". It encourages you to develop your creativity and your personal sensitivity to better describe your experience. In short, fewer pictures, but greater intensity.
It was also for me a special moment where I could "compare" my work with the others thinking: "We were at the same place with the same people and the same light." I could then realised what I could have seen or missed and how the sensitivities of each of us were expressed, and in fine become aware of my own sensibility and my "style" (if indeed I already got one ;-). It was very motivating!
All this in a very friendly atmosphere with good sense of humour.
Nicolas Pascarel is a really nice meeting both photographic and humanly.
10 days thinking photos, I feel more confident with good perspective of development.
